Ardscoil Rís seal their place in Harty Cup quarter-finals

THE five time champions held on despite a late fightback from Nenagh in Sixmilebridge today.

Ardscoil Rís are the first team into the quarter-finals of the Harty Cup after they beat Nenagh CBS 0-18 to 0-16 in the first round of the competition earlier today.

After a year’s absence, the competition returned todaay with the teams exchanging scores in side the first two minutes. By the seventh minute, Ardscoil were two clear which as three a couple of minutes later.

At the first waterbeak, their advantage was two as they led 0-5 to 0-3.

But two on the ounce had the Tipp school level after 18 minutes. Ardsoil Rís pulled one clear and four unanswered in the final five minutes of the half had them 0-11 to 0-6 clear at the short whistle.

The North circular school had the first score of the second half but three on the trot from Nenagh reduced the deficit to 0-12 to 0-9 with 25 to play.

Ardscoil hit back with a brace but heading into the final quarter, their advantage was still at three, 0-16 to 0-13.

The Limerick school would grab a vital score on the resumption before Nenagh piled on the pressure. Three unanswered had the Tipp outfit within one but Ardscoil found a vital score to move two clear again as they held out for the win.

Ardscoil Rís now avoid the second round and move straight into the quarter-finals which take place the week of January 8. This Wednesday, the remaining first round ties take place
