Limerick endures another week of tragedy on the roads

A 21-YEAR-OLD man from Kildimo in County Limerick, who died in a tragic road accident over the weekend, was laid to rest this Wednesday.

Adam Galvin was killed in an early morning single-vehicle collision on Sunday at 2.30am on the N59 in the townland of Corcullen in Galway. The sole occupant of the car, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A final year student of Pharmaceutical and Forensic Science at Limerick Institute of Technology, the popular young man was also a former student of Salesian College in Pallaskenry. Adam had recently completed an internship at pharmaceutical company Regeneron in Limerick.

Meanwhile, gardaí are appealing for witnesses to a fatal single vehicle road traffic collision that occurred at approximately 11.55am on the N18 at Cratloekeel a few miles from Limerick City last Saturday.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle involved, a man in his 40s, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Limerick University Hospital where he later passed away. A post-mortem examination will be conducted at a later date.

The N18 at Cratloekeel between Junction 5 Cratloe and Junction 4 Limerick was closed following the accident as Forensic Collision Investigators conducted an examination of the scene.

Two weeks earlier, a County Limerick businessman was killed on the same stretch of the N18  when his four-wheel drive vehicle overturned between the exits for Bunratty and Sixmilebridge.

Ken Smyth from Askeaton, who was described as a farmer and businessman in his late 40s, was the sole occupant of the vehicle and he died at the scene as firefighters and paramedics tried to free him.
