Ballyhoura Science Week returns for 2021

BALLYHOURA Science Week is Back, in person and bigger than ever. The third annual Ballyhoura Science Week takes place from November 10-13, supported by Science foundation Ireland, and featuring a range of free science events across the Ballyhoura Region and online.

Ballyhoura Science Week has always strived to bring fun and interactive science exhibits to communities in East Limerick and North Cork, by providing opportunities to experience science in a whole new and invigorating way, up close and in a way that leaves a lasting impact.

Adding to the line-up this year are Women in STEM… at the Theatre evening events, on Wednesday and Thursday November 10 and 11 from 6.30 to 8.30pm in Friars Gate Theatre, Kilmallock. These sessions will provide a forum for examining the often under-appreciated and under-represented role of women working in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, by looking at inspiring women from the past, as well as those who are shaping our future. Both evenings promise to be fun, with interactive table-top challenges, stirring videos and what promises to be a lively brainstorming panel discussions to get that grey matter working.

The Ballyhoura Family Science Day will be the highlight of Ballyhoura Science Week and will take place in Croom Sports Complex on Saturday November 13 from 11am to 4pm. The event will showcase a wide variety of science exhibits, shows and hands-on workshops, suitable for all the family.

Get involved with everyday citizen science at the eco village arena, step inside the exploration dome cinema experience, and get up close with live reptiles from the National Reptile Museum. Get hands on in the Kids’ Corner and learn how to make slime, or tune in to one of the interactive shows with dinosaurs.
