THE Energia Men’s All-Ireland League was back in full force over the weekend with a pair of wins for the Limerick contingent.
Garryowen provided the big win of the weekend as they overcame Dublin University comprehensively. Young Munster completed a memorable weekend for Limerick clubs as they defeated Ballynahinch.
The opening round of the AIL also saw wins for Clontarf and Terenure College.

Division 1A
DUBLIN UNIVERSITY 10 : 35 GARRYOWEN
Two tries from Munster’s Liam Coombes helped Garryowen seal their victory over Dublin University in Trinity. Further tries from Jamie Heuston and Bryan Fitzgerald, as well as additional points from the boot of Tony Butler, kept DU at bay until late in the second half.
Unconverted tries from Jamie Berrisford and Matthew Jungmann got Dublin University on the scoreboard before the final whistle.
YOUNG MUNSTER 29 : 7 BALLYNAHINCH
Young Munster made short work of Ballynahinch at the weekend with the visiting side remaining scoreless in the second half. Chris Gibson’s first half try was dwarfed by the efforts of Conor Hayes, Shay McCarthy, Adam Maher and Aaron Hennessy, who all crossed the Ballynahinch try line for Young Munster. Evan Cusack delivered three conversions and a penalty for the home side.
CLONTARF 29 : 12 UCD
Tries from David Hawkshaw, Conor Kearns, Dylan Donnellan, Jordan Mulvaney helped Clontarf get the better of UCD, in addition to points from David Hawkshaw off the tee.
Tries from UCD’s Jack Ringrose and David Heavey weren’t enough to upset the momentum enjoyed by Clontarf.
LANSDOWNE 16 : 11 CORK CONSTITUTION
Last years winners Cork Constitution suffered an upset at the hands of Lansdowne at the Aviva Stadium back pitch on Saturday. Munster legend Duncan Williams was the only Cork Con player to cross the Lansdowne try-line, however a last gasp gallop by Lansdowne’s Paul Kiernan sealed the game for the home side.
UCC 13 : 37 TERENURE COLLEGE
Terenure College handed a hefty defeat to UCC at the Mardyke last weekend, tries from Alan Bennie, Harrison Brewer, Peter Sylvester and a double from Steven O’Neil helped create the 24 point difference.
A first half try from UCC’s Richard Thompson along with two penalties and a conversion from Rob Hedderman gave the home side their half time score of 13 – 17, although despite the surpassable four point difference, UCC were kept scoreless in the second half.
