Treaty maintain unbeaten run over Cork City as scoreless draw moves them closer to promotion play-offs

TOMMY Barrett’s side maintained their unbeaten run against their Munster rivals.

Treaty moved one step closer to the play-offs with a scoreless draw against Cork City on Friday evening.

The Munster derby was stopped just five minutes into the contest with flares thrown on the the Markets Field pitch. In a tense opening half, Cork had the first real chance as Dylan McGlade saw his 25th minute effort sail over the bar.

10 minutes later Cian Murphy escaped the offside trap but a combination of Tadhg Ryan and Kieran Hanlon were able to prevent the Cork man.

At the break, the sides remained deadlocked at 0-0.

Cork had the first effort of the second half with Cian Bargary’s shot blocked by the Treaty rearguard. Tadhg Ryan was needed on the stroke of the half hour to make a smart save from Bargary.

With fifteen to play, Jack Lynch almost had the breakthrough but Mark McNulty was able to palm away the near post effort.

William Armshaw’s superb pass with four to play almost found the head of McSweeney but on the stretch he headed over.

That was the last real chance of the game as Treaty extended their lead over sixth place Athlone to 10 points.

UCD’s loss to Galway means Treaty are now only one point behind the third place Dublin outfit and trail Galway by four.

Bray Wanderers win over Cobh Ramblers moved them to within two of Treaty.

Treaty take on table toppers Shelbourne next Friday where a win for the home side in Tolka Park will see them crowned champions. Similarly, a win for Treaty will book their spot in the play-offs.
