THOMAS Zehetmair Director/Violin and the Irish Chamber Orchestra present MOZART, KINSELLA & BERLIOZ, a roller-coaster ride filled with emotion on Thursday 21 October, National Concert Hall, Dublin @ 8pm and Friday 22 October, University Concert Hall, Limerick @ 8pm.
Salzburg born Thomas Zehetmair enjoys enviable international acclaim not only as one of the great violinists of his generation but also as a conductor and chamber musician. The notion of deep engagement with the music runs like a thread through his illustrious career.
A meticulous performer Thomas Zehetmair champions the music of his fellow native Mozart and his thrilling Paris Symphony No. 31. This is a real showcase for ICO, highlighting technique, discipline as the strings energetically push to the fore. Paris has a playful character that leaves the listener totally rejuvenated.
As always, the ICO puts the spotlight on an Irish composer and Paris contrasts with John Kinsella’s enigmatic Nocturne, which is moody and contemplative, but another powerful nugget.
The ICO features is delighted to welcome the outstanding mezzo soprano Paula Murrihy whose stellar career has seen her perform here in Ireland and on all the major stages from Covent Garden to Los Angeles Opera, from Dutch National Opera to New York’s Metropolitan Opera. For her debut with ICO, she sings a much-loved song cycle by Berlioz with ICO. His evocative Les Nuits d’été, was inspired by Gautier’s La Comédie de la mort and these songs which brim with passion are among Berlioz’s finest. With themes of love and loss, the range of the songs in their orchestral guise also fits that of a gifted mezzo such as Paula Murrihy.
Don’t miss two great live performances from Thomas Zehetmair and the Irish Chamber Orchestra in Dublin and Limerick on 21 and 22 October.
