Limerick’s Attyflin Estate wins highest accolade at ‘Oscars of the Food Industry’

TODAY, Attyflin Estate’s renowned Irish Rosette Apple Juice has won the highest accolade at the Great Taste Awards 2021, which are known as the ‘Oscars of the international food industry’.

Attyflin Estate, which is owned and run by husband-and-wife team, Brian and Bridget O’Connell, Patrickswell, Co Limerick, has won the highest 3-Star Award in the internationally renowned Great Taste Awards for its unique Irish Rosette Apple Juice which is the only apple variety of its kind produced in Ireland.

This is the highest accolade to date for this award-winning juice which previously won a 2-Star prize at The Great Taste Awards as well as honours received from Blas na hEireann.

Thanks to extensive research and travel undertaken by Brian and Bridget over the past number of years, and in particular visiting centres of excellence in the South Tyrol region in Italy, the Attyflin Estate owners have gained an insight into best practices in the agri/food tourism industries which have been applied at Attyflin to create this unique and exclusive cold-pressed juice.

The apple orchards of Attyflin Estate are the result of ten years of hard work and commitment by the team at Attyflin.  Four years ago, the decision was made to increase the number of Rosette Apple trees within our orchards up to 1,000.

This year’s harvest is likely to yield approximately 5,000 bottles of the limited-edition Irish Rosette Apple juice, which will be available to the market.  Each drop of juice boasts the most distinct flavour and colour thanks to the marbled red flesh running through the Rosette apple.

A wide range of fruit is grown in the extensive Attyflin orchards and historic walled garden. The finest of fruit is then picked when perfectly ripe and pressed at its on-site production facility.

This whole cycle is affectionately known as the ‘Bud to Bottle’ process at Attyflin and highlights how each product is lovingly nurtured to produce the finest, thirst-quenching natural fruit beverages.  The Estate also produces chutneys and preserves, which are available to the market online and in a range of stores and delicatessens.

Speaking about The Great Taste Award and the achievements of Attyflin Estate, Brian said: “We are delighted to receive a 3-Star Great Taste Award. The award is in recognition of the hard-work and dedication of the team here at Attyflin Estate and the realisation of our ambitions to create a premium Rosette Apple juice.”

Brian added: “We’ve spent many years visiting some of the best fruit growing regions in Europe to marry best practice with our Irish farming heritage to create quality fruit drinks which are world-class.

“We simply grow, press, bottle and package on-site. We’d like to thank our loyal and excellent customers for their support of our diverse product range over the last number of years.”
