IRISH hairdressing legend Mary Ryan has stormed to victory in the third-ever Good Salon Guide Nation’s Favourite Hairdresser competition with hundreds of clients who visit her salon in Limerick casting their vote.
Mary and her salon, Mary’s Hair Salon in Ballygriffin, Croom, won universal praise for offering, not just brilliant hairdressing, but a warm welcome like no other.
Having been in the industry for 45 years and a member of Good Salon Guide for seven years, Mary, 60, has seen pretty much everything but, when Good Salon Guide Managing Director, Gareth Penn surprised Mary by arriving at her salon with her trophy, she was left stunned!
She said: “I am overwhelmed and completely humbled. We are in the small parish of Manister and literally in the middle of nowhere. This award most of all means that now we will be in the middle of everywhere!
“It is also fantastic for all my staff and my parents Nora and Jimmy who have worked so hard supporting me in this business.”
And it’s not just the clients who adore Mary. Her three staff love working alongside her.
Salon Manager, Brigid Lenihan said: “Mary has so much respect and appreciation for everyone who walks into the salon.
“She never says no to us or her clients and she always has our backs. It is a wonderful salon to work in and Mary really deserves this award.”
Stylist Aisling Madigan went to work with Mary four years ago and has loved every minute.
She added: “Mary is one of the nicest people on the planet. She is so kind and understanding to me and every single person she meets. The good positive entry hits you at the front door. It’s such a happy place to work.”
When the Nation’s Favourite Hairdresser was launched in 2018, Mary came a close second to Welsh winner Kelly Shone-Adams owner of Technocracy Hair in Neath, so Gareth was delighted that, this year, Mary took top spot.
He added: “Good Salon Guide has huge support in Ireland with fabulous member salons, so it is wonderful that Mary has won this award.
“We were inundated with wonderful comments about Mary, her team and her salon and having now visited the salon I can honestly say that the atmosphere is amazing.
“This win also comes hard on the heels of Limerick winning the all Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Final so, right now, there are lots of celebrations in the region!”
