THE FAI are set to launch their latest iteration of the ‘Fit For Life’ programme in conjunction with the Limerick Youth Service on October 4th.

The scheme is aimed at young people in the Askeaton/Rathkeale area over the age of 18, to improve their overall physical and mental wellbeing.

The 6-week programme will consist of four training sessions a week, with participants undergoing a fitness test at the beginning and at the end of the six week block in order to measure the progress made.

The programme will also include a nutrition element, in order to educate the participants on healthy cooking and food options outside of the training sessions themselves.

Despite the FAI’s involvement in the programme, the programme itself is not geared towards football but rather an overall ethos of a healthy lifestyle.

The fitness and nutrition elements won’t be the only standards of health acknowledged by the programme. The programme will also include a mental health element, along with group and one-on-one sessions with qualified councillors.

Those who complete the six weeks will be heading to Dublin for a visit to the Aviva Stadium.

Registration days will take place on the 14th and 25th of September from 2pm to 3pm

Adrian Finnin caught up with Jason O’Connor and Craig O’Brien to discuss the initiative.
