LIMERICK hurling has been dealt with the news they were dreading, as it has been confirmed that star forward Peter Casey ruptured his cruciate knee ligament which could him out of action for up to nine months.
Casey went off injured in the All-Ireland final against Cork after scoring five points from play in the first half.
With half time approaching, he was forced off injured after twisting his knee in front of the Davin Stand.
His appearance in the final was one surrounded in controversy, following his red card in the semi-final that was rescinded.
An expected timeframe for the injury is eight to nine months, which would see him back to full fitness around late May 2022.
The Na Piarsaigh player’s brother Mike underwent a cruciate ligament operation on his knee last November.
Mike had his surgery in November of last year and a separate injury ruled him out of the season this year.
Richie English and Sean Finn have also suffered the same injury.

There was another blow for Limerick with the announcement of strength and conditioning coach Mikey Kiely leaving the back room team.
The strength and conditioning coach behind Limerick’s back-to-back All-Ireland hurling titles is joining Ulster Rugby, having already worked with the province in their pre-season.
