‘Young Dreams’ callout for singer songwriters in Limerick and Clare

-

THIS September marks the 50th birthday of Dolores O’Riordan and the County Limerick town of Bruff is hosting ‘Young Dreams’, a weekend festival to remember Limerick’s much-loved artist.
A collaboration between the Local Creative Youth Partnership and the Dreams festival, ‘Young Dreams’ is led by artist Julianne Hennelly who initiated the event in 2019.
The festival organisers are now inviting 18 to 25 year olds to submit an application to be part a singer songwriter showcase which will be streamed from the Dolores O’Riordan bench in The Morning Star Park, Bruff on September 5.
A number of arts events are happening in Bruff for the artist’s birthday weekend with younger children taking part in music workshops to create a recording for the artist’s birthday which will also be streamed on September 6.
Visual art created through Summer workshops will form an exhibition in shop windows in the town – also inspired by Dolores O’Riordan.
Young Dreams is part of Call & Response, a youth arts festival trail taking place in Limerick and Clare throughout September.
On September 11, Abbeyfeale will come alive with young musicians associated with the Sliabh Luachra Trail. Master class workshops for intermediate and advanced students take place in Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board’s FET Centre Abbeyfeale with some of the country’s most respected traditional musicians, Tim Collins on concertina, Michael King on flute, Marcus Moloney on banjo, Niall Murphy on Fiddle and Murty Ryan on accordion – all delivering a day long workshop to young musicians.

The evening of September 11 sees a landmark concert featuring Breaking Trad alongside some of Abbeyfeale’s young, emerging musicians in the recently upgraded Glórach Theatre.
On the same day, Abbeyfeale’s Traveller community is invited to St. Ita’s Hall to share stories and songs from their distinctive heritage in the launch of an audio recording of Traveller music and cultural heritage.
All of the events featured in Call & Response will be carried out in strict adherence with public health guidelines with events taking place out of doors and online.
