“THANKS to you we have been doing well through a very difficult period for the Limerick City retail and business sector.” That’s the message from the newly-formed Limerick City Centre Traders’ Association (LCCTA) to the people of the Limerick region for their support over the last 18 months, as Covid-19 took its toll on the country’s economy.
To underline their appreciation for the loyalty of their customers, the LCCTA has lined up something very special to enhance the city centre experience, whether shopping or just wandering about. Over the next three Saturdays there will be music and dance in the city centre for everyone to enjoy.
The entertainment programme in Limerick last Saturday kicked off with The Down Town Dixieland Band, who will be playing a weekly slot on the junction of Thomas and Catherine Street from 11am to 1pm.
There will be a free open air Zumba class every Saturday to get Limerick moving in Arthurs Quay park from 12 noon to 1pm with renowned instructor Darren Nash. The streets will be filled with the sounds of various buskers including Thick as Thieves.
On Saturday, August 21, the city’s award-winning St Mary’s Fife and Drum band will be an additional attraction as they perform on Thomas Street from 11.30am to 1pm.
“With this initiative we want to attract more shoppers into the city centre, as we make it a nicer experience. We are looking at extending our street entertainment programme to other times of the year,” explained Ms Clarke. “Finally, we wish our hurlers well on Saturday evening in Croke Park.”
