WATCH: John Kiely gives his squad update while captain Hannon offers support for teammate Peter Casey

LIMERICK Senior Hurling Manager John Kiely has given an update on his squad’s health for the week prior to their final clash against Cork.

Kiely has given his squad update 12 days before facing into their third All-Ireland final in four years. After two brutal championship clashes against Tipperary and Waterford leading up to the final, naturally the Limerick squad will have to nurse some minor bumps and bruises.

The positive John Kiely cleared any doubt surrounding corner-back Barry Nash, remarking that Nash was “perfect” and will train with the squad this week.

Kiely did reveal that Limerick’s wing-back Diarmuid Byrnes did suffer a minor ankle injury. Kiely added that Byrnes will not train for the next few days to allow the ankle to heal, but will return to train with the squad soon.

Limerick full-back Mike Casey is still sidelined with a knee issue he picked up in early July, while Mark Quinlan is set to return from a quad injury in the coming week.

“The only players who aren’t training are obviously Mike Casey, Mark Quinlan who’s had a quad muscle strain for four weeks now, he’s rehabbing as well and should be back over the course of the next week or so. Diarmuid (Byrnes) will be rested for a couple of days, but I’m expecting that everyone else will train.”

Limerick captain Declan Hannon also weighed in on the issue surrounding Limerick corner-forward Peter Casey, who received a red card last weekend for an apparent head-butt toward Waterford’s Conor Gleeson. Casey is likely to miss the final unless an appeal process on his behalf is successful.

“I was talking to Peter and he’s obviously very upset and disappointed over the red card, I suppose it’s even worse when it’s in an All-Ireland semi-final… Peter’s a big part of our group and our family and were all there to support him”
