THE Limerick corner-forward was shown a red card in Limerick’s semi-final clash with Waterford for an apparent head-butt which could see him miss out on the final.
Limerick GAA are set to proceed with the process to clear Peter Casey for Sunday week’s All-Ireland SHC final against Cork, according to the Irish Examiner.
The referee from Saturday’s All-Ireland semi-final John Keenan, produced a detailed report from the incident, which he submitted to the Central Competitions Control Committee, thus issuing the ban.
On Tuesday evening, John Kiely said there had been no decision made on whether to appeal as he said,
“We had a few hours of discussion about it at that stage, but we have 48 hours to decide on our approach to it. We have another meeting scheduled for this evening after training, so basically it’s ongoing.
“There’s no definitive decision taken as yet. It all depends on what decision or what route we decide to take. For the moment it’s only Tuesday, so there’s no panic. We said on Sunday we’d take our time and make the right decision for Peter and for the group, and we’ll use the time we have. We have the 48 hours and it’s great to have that time, that we’re not rushed into any particular direction.”
It appears that the decision was made after the press night with Limerick to appeal the ban, with Casey ruled out for the final after seeing red in the 60th minute of the All-Ireland semi-final.
Limerick will now send their appeal to the Central Hearing Committee (CHC). If they uphold the suspension, Limerick will have the option to send their appeal to the Central Appeals Committee. They will also have the option of an independent Disputes Resolution Authority to step in.
