A man was due to appear before Limerick District Court this Wednesday charged in connection with an incident in which gardai pepper-sprayed a male suspected of being armed with a knife last night.
A video shared on social media believed to be the same incident shows three gardai approaching a male and one garda discharging pepper spray at the individuals face.
At one stage the three garda stand back as the male walks towards them.
The three officers, two male and one female, then continue to follow the individual who is arrested after he is seen falling to the ground after he is pepper-sprayed by one of the male gardai.
When asked for comment, a garda spokeswoman said: “Gardaí have arrested and charged a male aged in his 20s in relation to an incident which occurred in Garryowen, Co Limerick on the 27th July 2021 at approximately 10:00pm.”
“The male is due to appear before Limerick District Court. As this matter is before the courts no further information is available.”
An informed source confirmed gardai pepper sprayed a man who was allegedly armed with a knife in Garryowen last night before arresting the suspect.
