PREVIEW: Limerick take on Tipperary in the Munster Minor Football Championship Quarter-Final

-

THE Limerick minor footballers take on Tipperary in the Munster championship tonight at the LIT Gaelic Grounds.

Kevin Denihan’s side open their campaign at the quarter-final stage against the Premier with the winners set to face Clare in the last four.

Denihan has named a 35 man squad for the championship with Monaleen’s Darragh Murray to captain the side.

Murray is named at midfield for the quarter-final clash and is the only survivor from last year’s team.

Tipperary manager Johnny Nevin has also named his squad for tonight’s game.

In the 2020 championship, Limerick defeated Waterford 2-12 to 1-5 in the quarter-finals. However, they fell to a heavy 4-20 to 1-10 loss at the hands of a strong Banner team in the semi-final.

Tipp suffered a similar fate against Clare when they met in the quarter-final last year, losing by 20 points.

These teams last met in the championship in 2019 when they played out a 0-10 apiece draw.

Limerick’s last win over Tipp in the minor championship came in 2016 in the Munster Football Playoff. Two goals from captain Diarmuid Kelly helped the Shannonsiders to a 3-8 to 0-11 win.
