Limerick native Shadrach Ogie impressing in Leyton Orient pre-season

FORMER Pike Rovers man Shadrach Ogie has been in fine form so far this pre-season on his return from his loan spell at Aldershot.

The 19-year-old defender has featured in both of Orient’s friendlies against Premier League opposition.

Ogie played his schoolboy football in Limerick with Pike Rovers before featuring for the 2015 Limerick District Schoolboy League side in the 2015 Kennedy Cup.

The left-footed defender has had loan spells at Bishop’s Stortford, Dover Athletic and Aldershot, but will be looking to secure a spot in Kenny Jackett’s side in League Two for the upcoming season.

Shadrach has featured for Ireland at U18 and U19 level.

In the last two games, Ogie has come up against Premier League opposition in Tottenham and West Ham, earning a draw in both while playing at centre back, facing the likes of Dele Alli, Lucas Moura and Michail Antonio.

He’s slowly becoming a favourite among fans with his no-nonsense defending and tidy ball skills.

One fan said: “Shadrach Ogie tonight, absolutely exceptional performance, bullied Antonio and made him look silly at times with his strength, bright future ahead of him.”

In particular, Ogie has been praised with how he dealt with one of the toughest strikers in the country in Michail Antonio.

Last year, Shadrach penned a new two-year deal at Orient. He can play at left back as well as in the middle.

Exciting season ahead for the youngster and definitely one to keep an eye out for.
