The Charity is giving people the opportunity to thank their dogs online by giving them a “Pawmotion”

Sadly, not all dogs are lucky enough to have found their forever home yet, but you can help get them back on their paws by donating the cost of your coffee or commute each month or by Sponsoring A Dog

This year, Ireland’s largest dog welfare charity, Dogs Trust, is celebrating its fourth national ‘Dog-Friendly Ireland Day’ with the help of Irish television presenter and Entrepreneur Darren Kennedy.

As part of its campaign to make Ireland the best place in the world to be a dog, the charity is asking people to celebrate the extra special bond they have formed with their pooch during the pandemic.

For over a year now, our canines have been our colleagues, our companions and sometimes even our counsellors and Dogs Trust feels its high time that they were given a “Pawmotion”.

‘Dog-Friendly Ireland Day’ is part of a wider initiative to encourage more establishments and services across the country to become dog friendly. However, as many dog owners continue to work from home and with much of the hospitality industry closed over the last year, the charity is asking dog lovers to join them online again this year and share photos of their dogs ‘working’ from home using the hashtag #DogFriendlyIrelandDay.

Visit www.DogsTrust.ie/DogFriendlyIrelandDay, where you will find lots of information on how you can get involved in the day, including dog-friendly recipes, enrichment puzzles and a downloadable doggie name tag for your desk so you can give your pooch a new job title! Whether your dog is an ‘Office Mutterials Associate’, ‘Chief Canine Officer’, ‘Head of Puplick Relations’ or a ‘Pawject Manager’, Dogs Trust is relying on members of the public to find the perfect title to reflect their dog’s personality.

Head of Communications at Dogs Trust Ireland, Ciara Byrne said: “Today is a celebration of all things dog and recognising how they have helped so many of us cope with life during lockdown.

“Given the moral support that dogs have provided, they deserve their very own day and we can’t wait to see social media brightened up with lots of photos of happy dogs and their new job titles.

“We also look forward to welcoming the day when dogs are an accepted passenger on public transport, a welcome visitor in the workplace, a wanted tenant in rental accommodation and a regular customer in most food-serving establishments across the country.”

Television Presenter, Entrepreneur, and Dog-Friendly Ireland Ambassador for 2021, Darren Kennedy said: “My dog Harry has been in my life since he was a tiny puppy and every day he continues to bring me so much joy, companionship and happiness. Lockdown has been tough on a lot of people’s mental health and dogs have helped so many of us get through these tough times.

“Harry has been my constant companion during lockdown, I know I’d have gone stir crazy if it wasn’t for him. Dog-Friendly Ireland Day is an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate that bond and the central role dogs play in our lives.

“If you can, please consider donating what you would normally spend on a coffee or travelling to work to Dogs Trust today, so they can continue to care for the dogs that need them most.” he concluded.
