MINISTER for Public Expenditure and Reform and Cork South Central T.D. Michael McGrath has welcomed the announcement from consulting firm Accenture to create 500 high quality new jobs mostly in Cork.
Accenture already employs over 5,000 people in Ireland and these new roles will be in areas such as technology, cloud, security, strategy, creative and design. Most of these jobs will be created in the Munster region supporting Accenture’s life science sector.
Commenting, Minister McGrath said, “This is a very exciting jobs announcement, particularly for the Cork and Munster region and it shows that Ireland continues to be an attractive location for investment in high quality cutting edge technology.
“The announcement follows another positive announcement yesterday from Carrigaline based company, SimoTech.
“Since taking office, this Government has prioritised higher education, research and innovation. Establishing a Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science and the creation of Munster Technological University is evidence of this commitment by Government.
“This investment by Accenture is a vote of confidence for Ireland and particularly for Cork and the Munster region. It shows that Accenture has confidence in Ireland’s talented workforce and knows that highly qualified and motivated graduates will emerge from both University College Cork, from Munster Technological University and from our wider further and higher education sector.
“This last year has shown that the future economy is based on technology, research, innovation and science and we will continue to invest in these areas to ensure Ireland remains an attractive and viable location for this kind of investment in the years ahead”.
