LIMERICK side Shelbourne A.F.C recently received the FAI Club Mark, the mark is an award allocated for management and administration within the football club.
The long-standing club within the city earned the qualification which recognises the clubs fine work in all aspects of the game.
The club founded in 1928 in the Thomandgate area are among the clubs to have been awarded for their well organised structure and development of players of all ages. Recent growth within the club and the ever increasing numbers of underage teams has seen them receive the FAI honour.
Shelbourne are not only the oldest football club within Limerick but also the fastest growing, being only the second team within the city to have received the award and have club mark status, Having also been selected for the UEFA Disney Playmakers Programme designed for girls 5-8 years of age.
The Club Mark is designed to improve and facilitate the growth of the game across the board within the country at every age level and promote an increase in participation within the sport.
The goal and intention behind the award is to reward clubs for their commitment and achievements while maintaining high standards which in turn will increase the growth of football communities throughout the country.
The support offers clubs a chance to improve and establish a higher capacity to operate effectively and achieve their desired goals. ultimately benefiting the nation in achieving success at the National level.
As there is several roles in each club , the Club Mark looks to aid the running of the governance with each team and assist with the development of all participants at grassroots level.
The two awards involved with the FAI Club Mark are the entry level award and the one star award with three categories such as players and coaching, governance and administration and finally clubs with underage players having to be fulfilled in order to receive the mark from the national football organisation recognising the achievements made by the club.
