LIMERICK booked their place in the Division 3 semi-finals with a 2-19 to 1-12 win over Wicklow in Aughrim on Saturday.
A powerful second half proved the catalyst for Billy Lee’s men who dominated the game.
Goals from Danny Neville and Hugh Bourke pulled Limerick clear with Lee delighted with the manner of the performance from his side who only earned promotion from Division 4 in October.
“To come out of places like this and consolidate Division 3, you’ve got to have the bit between your teeth and the gumption in your brain to be ready for the battle. The speed of the game moves up and the intensity goes up.”
“We’re delighted. 2-19 is a bonus. it’s not about the score we got, what was pleasing about the score we had 10 or 11 different scorers and a lot from play.
“We knew we had to come up here and take it to them. You’re not going to come up here and defend, that’s not the way to play football anyways. What pleased me in the first half is that we had 14 scoring opportunities and we took 11 and all came from play so I knew the lads were in the groove. But that meant nothing because we were only two points up at the break. They were really focused and it’s a credit to them.
“I’m delighted for them, they’re young men, they’re trying to challenge themselves and they continue to do that.”
They now move on to face Derry with Division 2 just a single victory away. The Ulster side have been impressive in Division 3 North thus far with three wins from three.
They will meet in Leitrim on Saturday June 12 at 4pm with Lee excited for another challenge.
“It’s a game to take on. We are going to learn from it, one way or another. We’re playing Derry, we see how they’re going and we will take on the challenge. We will know what it takes to get to the top of Division 3 next year if we don’t go up. So one way or another, win or lose, we are going to learn.”
