UNIVERSITY Concert Hall (UCH) opened its new four-part concert series Awakening, Limerick Concert Series this March with acclaimed mezzo-soprano Tara Erraught and Dearbhla Collins performing in the inaugural concert last month.
The series is set to continue this May with three online Sunday afternoon concerts featuring much loved Irish classical performers including The Irish Chamber Orchestra, Hugh Tinney and Christopher Marwood and John O Conor.
Speaking about the upcoming concerts UCH Director Sinéad Hope said “We are delighted to be welcoming these world class artists to the UCH stage this Spring. Our ambition for Awakening was to inspire audiences to listen to more classical music and to shine a light on these incredible Irish artists.
“Of course, we would love to be welcoming a live audience to our auditorium for this series but with current restrictions it’s not to be. Like so many in the Arts industry, we’ve adapted and moved our series online which we hope will open these concerts up to an even wider audience and allow customers to enjoy classical music from the comfort of their own homes.
“Following Tara and Dearbhla’s concert in March we received some wonderful feedback from audiences who had watched the performance from near and far. This support is hugely appreciated and inspires us as we look forward to presenting three more world class concerts in May.” she added.
The series continues on the 2nd of May with the Irish Chamber Orchestra taking to the UCH stage under the baton of Internationally acclaimed, conductor, violinist and chamber musician Thomas Zehetmair.
Awakening, Limerick Concert Series will also welcome pianist Hugh Tinney and cellist Christopher Marwood on the 9th of May with a programme of Debussy and Prokofiev.
The series closes with acclaimed Irish pianist John O’ Conor performing Beethoven’s beautiful sonatas from the University Concert Hall stage on the 30th of May.
