LAST Friday marked a historic night for Limerick senior soccer.
Following an impressive opening day draw away to Bray Wanderers, Treaty United played a competitive game at the Market’s Field for the very first time against Wexford FC.
Centre back Anto O’Donnell’s 25th minute header gave Tommy Barrett’s men the lead and they continued to cause Wexford problems throughout the evening.
Clyde O’Connell was sent off for a second bookable offence in the latter stages but Treaty were able to defend well to hold out for an important three points.
Next up for Tommy Barrett’s men are Cobh Ramblers this Friday in Garryowen. Things get slightly trickier from there on as Galway, Cork, Shelbourne and UCD await in the next month but Treaty could never have dreamt of a better beginning to League of Ireland life and will take a great degree of confidence into the challenges ahead.
