March 15
On this day four years ago, the Limerick U21 Footballers fell to Cork in the Munster semi-final after a valiant effort in Pairc Ui Rinn. In 2015, the footballers lost out to Fermanagh in Enniskillen.
2017
The Limerick U21 footballers fell short of a Munster final as they were beaten 2-10 to 0-10 by Cork in Pairc Ui Rinn.
The hosts, who reached a seventh consecutive final, didn’t have it their own way by any means as Limerick were wasteful in front of goal.
After grabbing the first score of the evening, Limerick Were immediately pegged back when the Rebels goaled after five minutes through Maidhcí Ó Duinnín.
But Limerick had six of the next eight scores to move 0-7 to 1-2 ahead. However, it could have been much more had AJ O’Connor been successful from the penalty spot.
Goalkeeper Richard Hayes kept the scoreboard moving but a couple from Cork prior to the break had the deficit back to 0-9 to 1-3.
After needing 80 minutes to see off Tipperary in the previous round, Limerick were leggy in the second period and it only took Cork three minutes to draw level.
Soon they were ahead before Hugh Bourke equalised from a free. But that was to be Limerick’s only score of the second half as the hosts took over.
Cork had their second goal late on from Michael Hurley to add gloss to the winning margin as Limerick’s wait for a first Munster final appearance since 2005 continued.
2015
Limerick fell to a fourth consecutive defeat in the National Football League as their search for a first win of the season continued.
They were beaten 2-19 to 2-10 by eventual table toppers Fermanagh in Enniskillen.
Sean Quigley was the main man on the day as he launched over 0-11 for the hosts in the nine-point victory.
David Ward and Robert Browne did find goals for Limerick but they were matched in that department by Fermanagh duo Ruairi Corrigan and Eoin Donnelly.
The result left Limerick rooted to the bottom of the Division 3 table with just two rounds to play.
