DO you have what it takes to be a Positive Energy Champion for Limerick? Well if so Limerick City and County Council is looking for you!

ย As part of a European funded programme, the +CityxChange (Positive City Exchange) project is working to develop areas of โ€˜positive energyโ€™ in Limerick city.

ย To do this we are looking for 24 Positive Energy Champions who will champion Limerick as a future Positive Energy City and to be the change within their community and business networks.

ย People from all walks of life who are happy to share their experiences are invited to get involved.

ย Applications are open to everyone โ€“ individuals and representatives of community groups, NGOs, businesses, and institutions. The +CityxChange project focuses on the Georgian Neighbourhood so applications from people who live, work, or own a building in the Georgian Neighbourhood are particularly welcomed.

ย You may already be making changes to consume less energy, or are interested in how to get started in taking Positive Energy Action.

ย Positive Energy Champions will each receive an individual step-by step plan of Positive Energy Actions to implement over 20 weeks between April and September 2021.

ย The plan will be tailored to suit each Positive Energy Championโ€™s capacity for change.

ย Positive Energy Actions can include:

  • ย  ย  ย  Reducing energy consumption by adapting energy behaviour
  • ย  ย  ย  Planning the most effective building energy retrofit and learning about new investment models to help pay for it
  • ย  ย  ย  Exploring the change to low-carbon transport
  • ย  ย  ย  Learning about new tools and processes to help make the clean energy transition in Limerick a change which can benefit everyone

Learning from the Positive Energy Champion Campaign will contribute to a Clean Energy Plan for Limerick being developed as part of +CityxChange.

ย To recognise this important contribution to Limerickโ€™s clean energy future a Celebrate the Champions event is planned to take place in September 2021 (subject to Covid-19 public health guidance).

ย Sinead Hourigan, Project Manager for the +CityxChange project in Limerick City and County Council said: โ€œWe are casting the net as wide as possible looking for people from all sections of society who are interested in climate action. It is a 20 week project during which we want people to document their actions for example by examining their transport decisions, retrofitting their home or business premises or installing a renewable energy system. We want more people in Limerick to be empowered to act to combat climate change.โ€

ย A small change can have a big impact on your energy consumption, on your carbon footprint and can help create a pathway to Limerick becoming a Positive Energy City. These are areas which produce more energy from local renewable sources than they consume.

ย The +CityxChange project is supported by the EU Horizon 2020 programme, and the project team includes Limerick City and County Council, University of Limerick, GKinetic, and ESB Networks among others.
