SENIOR soccer will return to Limerick in 2021 with confirmation that Treaty United will be the tenth team competing in the Airtricity League First Division. The FAI confirmed the news on Saturday night.
The FAI released the decision on their official Twitter page.
“Licences for the 2021 season were awarded by the Independent Licensing Committee on Friday. On receipt earlier today of the NLEC recommendation that the First Division comprise of 10 teams, the FAI Board then took its decision this afternoon.”

(@FAIreland) The decision will delight the soccer public in Limerick and mid-west region and will see Treaty United start their campaign with an away trip against Bray Wanderers on March 26th at the Carlisle Grounds.
The uncertainty now ends and Tommy Barrett can begin planning for the season ahead. The club will play home fixtures at the Markets Field and begin their home campaign with a home tie against Wexford FC.
Treaty United were also delighted with confirmation of the news
Club Chairman Conn Murray stated;
“I am delighted to announced that senior soccer is back in the mid-west. It has been a journey which we have taken on over 12 months. This has not happened by chance and I have been surrounded by an incredible board of people. It is an opportunity for all our young people in the mid-west who are so talented to expand their potential.”
