Reports: Treaty United and Dublin County to Join First Division

IT is being reported by sports outlets including the Airtricity League’s leading reporter Extratime.ie that both Treaty United and Dublin County will join the Airtricity League First Division for the 2021 season. Also, Shamrock Rovers B will contest in the second tier for the second consecutive season under the stewardship of former Limerick FC player Aidan Price.

The move would result in the First Division being expanded from 10 to 12 teams and the provisional fixture list released last week would have to overhauled dramatically. The news would be a welcome boost for the mid-west region as Limerick and its surrounding areas had been without a senior soccer representative in 2020.

Although nothing is official as of yet, Treaty have begun making plans in recent weeks as they appointed former Limerick FC manager Tommy Barrett as first-team manager. Both the club and Barrett re-iterated that they had to plan as if they were going to be accepted as the recruitment process needed to begin.

Dublin County FC are financially supported by a UK and US consortium with former Ipswich Town defender Chris Makin believed to be involved. Their home venue will be Morton Stadium in Santry which has been previously used by Shamrock Rovers and Sporting Fingal. Treaty United will be using the Markets Field as their home venue.
