FORMER Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy is set for a return to management just two weeks after his dismissal as manager of Cypriot outfit APOEL Nicosia. McCarthy is expected to be announced as the new manager of English Championship club Cardiff City.
The Welsh club dismissed manager Neil Harris on Thursday following six defeats in a row. The Bluebirds are currently 15th in the league table following the wretched run and look set to appoint the former Ipswich boss in an attempt to re-ignite their promotion push. They are currently 13 points outside the play-off places.
McCarthy may be a wise choice for the club considering his record in the second tier of English football. He has led Sunderland and Wolves to promotions to the Premier League in the past 15 years and also reached the play-offs with Ipswich Town in 2015.

The experienced manager spent two months in charge of former Champions League outfit APOEL but following four defeats on the bounce, he was sacked and thus became the 16th manager to leave the club since 2013.
As manager of the Republic of Ireland over two separate spells, he led the country to the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea where they were defeated in the last 16 against Spain in a penalty shoot-out.
