IN the wake of Limerick’s incredible All-Ireland Final win over Waterford that brought the 2020 Hurling season to a close finally, the Sunday Game panel selected their annual team of the year.
While it isn’t an official All-Star award, with that event yet to take place, it does bode well for the Limerick players that nine were selected on the Sunday Game team of the year.
Nickie Quaid was selected in goals, with the Effin man somehow not managing to pick up an All Star in what has been an illustrious career.
Sean Finn is in at corner back and is looking for a third consecutive All Star. Dan Morrissey is selected at full-back and is looking to add to his 2018 award in the half back line.
Diarmaid Byrnes and Kyle Hayes are the half-back pairing and are looking for a first All Star.
Cian Lynch is named at midfield and would receive a second All Star if voted in.
Unsurprisingly Gearoid Hegarty and Tom Morrissey are chosen in the wing-forward line with the duo front runners for the Hurler of the Year gong.
Aaron Gillane was picked on the edge of the square and is looking for a second successive All Star.
St Patrick’s Gearoid Hegarty was named as the unanimous Hurler of the Year after scoring 0-20 from play in his five games this Winter.
