LIMERICK made it back-to-back Munster Hurling titles in Thurles yesterday as they overcame a stubborn Waterford side 0-25 to 0-21.

Although Limerick held the lead for the majority of the match, they only pulled away from the Deise down the home strectch.

This was in part due to the impact of Limerick’s subs with Seamuc Flanagan and Adrian Breen bagging points on their introduction.

In the wake of the game, Kiely noted the importance of those who saw gametime from the bench.

“Were it not for the push the lads gave when coming on in the last 10 minutes I don’t know would we have gotten over the line. But we showed great resolve at that stage of the game, in our defence in particular. There were times there when they were very strong in attack and we were just very resolute in the tackle, turned them over and came out with it and got a couple of scores to seal the deal.”

“Absolutely delighted to have won a second title. As you said, it’s a long time since 1980. Hopefully we can build on it. It took us a long time to get back to this point since we were last there and we have two weeks now to prepare.”
