TREATY United will not be competing in the Women’s FAI Cup Final in their first year in existence following a 2-0 defeat to Cork City at Bishopstown in the semi-final on Sunday afternoon.
Two first half goals from Saoirse Noonan ended the dream for Dave Rooney’s side.
Cork City made a fast start and took the lead as we approached the tenth minute when Noonan rose above Alannah Mitchell to powerfully head the ball beyond Maebh Ryan in the Treaty goal.
Cork amassed a total of five corners in the first ten minutes and looked dangerous on every occasion.
A few minutes later, Treaty struggled to clear another set-piece and Noonan doubled her tally as she reacted quickest to the rebound as Ryan had brilliantly saved an effort from Cork centre-back McNamara.
Rooney’s charges responded well and Marie Curtin who was operating at centre-forward in the early exchanges, combined well with Gillian Keenan to set up Chloe Connolly but the winger sliced her effort wide from the penalty spot.
In the second half, the visitors continued to push for a goal and had chances through Aoife Cronin and Gillian Keenan but were unable to take advantage as Cork held on for victory to meet Peamount United in the FAI Cup Final at Tallaght Stadium on December 12th.
Treaty’s attentions will now turn to next week’s crucial tie against DLR Waves at Jackman Park where a victory would see them finish top of Tier 2.
