The man, (23), who cannot be named due to reporting restrictions imposed by a judge, was brought before an early special sitting of the court last Friday, after gardai executed the the EAW last Thursday, it emerged today.
The accused is charged with one count of rape, contrary to Section 48 of the Offences Against the Person Act, 1861, and Section 2 of the Criminal Law (Rape) Amendment Act, 1981, as (Amendment) Act, 1990.
It is alleged the offence occurred on April 20, 2018, at a location that cannot be identified for legal reasons.
The offence carries a maximum life sentence on conviction on indictment.
The accused was remanded in custody with consent to bail on his own bond of €500, as well as an independent surety of €5,000, of which €1,500 was to be lodged and approved by the courts.
The accused’s bail conditions are that, he must not contact the alleged victim; sign on daily at a garda station; adhere to a curfew of between 11pm and 7am; surrender his passport and not apply for new travel documents; and to be available to gardai at all times via a mobile phone number supplied to the court, and the phone must be charged and in-credit at all times.
