LIMERICK City and County Librariesย areย taking part in a new nationalย campaignย to celebrateย Irish writers while encouraging everyone to discoverย โ€˜Rewarding Readsโ€™ย during Covid-19.ย ย

The libraries around Limerick have teamed up with libraries nationwide toย join with Creative Ireland to remindย everyoneย that they canย startย aย newย story and discoverย lots ofย rewarding reads through their library,ย even whileย Covid-19 restrictionsย are in place.ย

Theย โ€˜Rewarding Readsโ€™ campaignย is part of the Governmentโ€™s โ€˜Keep Wellโ€™ programme, launchedย byย Taoiseachย Micheรกlย Martin.ย ย

Recognisingย that we might all be looking for a little distraction over the coming winter months,ย Limerickย librariesย areย lettingย everyone know thatย a wealth ofย booksย for all ages and all interestsย are available throughย theย library,ย and reading can be an excellent way to relax, escape, boost creative wellbeing or learn something new.ย ย

All library members have access to these services completely free,ย and anybody can join online atย librariesireland.ie/joinย or by contacting your local library.ย Check Limerick.ieย hereย for details.

The creative campaign uses Irishย book titlesย to generate a new story. Each of the titlesย linksย with another to create a piece of flash fictionย and a newย storyย โ€“ with some humor and unexpected twists.

The campaign features a diverse range ofย Ireland’s literary icons, from classic writers to new talents,ย as well as books across all genres. Authors featured in the campaign includeย Limerickโ€™s Vicky Phelan, Judi Curtin and Kevin Barry, along withย Flann Oโ€™Brien, Emmaย Dabiri, Roddyย Doyle, Johnย Boyne, Sally Rooney and many others.ย

Speaking about the launch of the new campaign, Damien Brady, Limerick City andย Countyย Librarianย said:ย โ€œYou can always escape into a good book and there are plenty to choose from at your libraryย โ€“ even now while our doors are unfortunately closed you can still download eBooks and audiobooks to your device at home.ย

“Library membership is completely freeย andย you can easily join online, so if youโ€™re not already a member, what better time?โ€ย

During the Covid-19ย pandemic,ย you do not need to finalise your application in the library before being able to use online services.ย

All library members have access to a range of online library services including:ย ย
