A LIMERICK teenager whose father was brutally murdered and who wrote a book to help other children deal with grief will assist at the launch of the Limerick Garda Youth Awards ceremony this year.
Garda Chief Superintendent Gerard Roche will launch the award scheme and will be assisted by Sarah Corbett Lynch who won a special achievement award both in the Limerick and National youth awards last year.
The awards, which are held in association with Garveys, Supervalu Corbally and Centra Newcastle West, are designed to acknowledge the volunteering activities of young people living within the Limerick Garda Division between the ages of 13 years and 21 years.
They also acknowledge the endeavours of young people that have faced and overcome challenges in their life.
Awards are considered for nominated young people who by their presence, activity and contribution make their communities a better place to live in.
In all there will be eight award winners this year with at least one winner from each of the four districts within the Limerick Garda Division.
Winners of the local awards will then have an opportunity of winning a National Garda youth award.
The Limerick Garda Youth award ceremony normally takes place at the Woodlands House Hotel, Adare. However due to the ongoing Covid 19 crisis this cannot be the case this year.
Instead, the awards will be presented to the winners by Chief Superintendent Roche at Henry Street Garda Station on Thursday, December 3.
Nomination forms with rules of the award scheme are available from the Juvenile Liaison Office Mayorstone Garda Station Limerick at 061 456986, any Garda Station in Limerick City or county or on the Garda website.
