THE Limerick Camogie team begin their championship campaign this Saturday when they welcome Westmeath to Bruff at 2pm.
Limerick’s last game was a narrow win over Dublin in the final round of the League on March 8 in LIT.
That win secured Limerick’s top tier status.
However, it will count for little this weeknend with a number of changes in the Limerick side.
All Star Niamh Mulcahy has taken a year out while Rebecca Delee is out injured.
Others who will not feature who played in the last year’s quarter final are Sarah Carey, Roisin Ambrose, Deborah Murphy, Karen O’Leary, Lisa Leonard, Katie Hennessy and Laura Stack.
Nonetheless, Limerick will be favoured to overcome Westmeath, despite the Leinster sides improvements in recent summers.
They were intermediate champions last year after beating Galway in the final, 1-11 to 1-9.
Limerick are under the tutelage of Paul Sexton who is in his first year in charge.
He will be hopeful of following in the footsteps of Declan Nash who guided his side to the quarter-finals for the first time since 2004 last year.
Limerick are in Group 2 of the championship alongside Waterford and Kilkenny.
They face the Deise next weekend, and will take on Kilkenny after a by week following the Waterford clash.
The top side in the group will advance to the semi-final while second will move into the quarter-finals.
