Maxi Zoo Ireland teamed up with the Make-A-Wish children’s charity to surprise an eight-year-old boy living with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
When his wish to be selected as a mascot at an Irish International Rugby game fell foul of the Covid-19 pandemic, his family went back to the drawing board and discovered that what he would really like was a dog.
Although this wasn’t possible while he was undergoing treatment, his family had often talked about getting a dog when his condition improved. Make-A-Wish approached Maxi Zoo to help celebrate Patrick’s eighth birthday in style.
Patrick was invited in store to meet his new pet, a Labrador called Luke, and this was followed by a private shopping experience to pick up the dogs essentials to begin his life with his forever family.
“We are so grateful to Make-A-Wish for the wonderful work they do and to the staff at Maxi Zoo for their kindness and generosity. Patrick’s puppy has brought such joy after a difficult few years and we look forward to many years of happiness and fun with Luke, the newest member of our family,” Patrick’s mother explained.
Maxi Zoo Marketing Director Noelle Long said “We pride ourselves on being a family friendly retailer and we were honoured to be approached by Make-A-Wish to help make Patrick’s wish come true.
