LIMERICK City and County Council declined to comment in response to a claim by a reliable source that it has asked some of its staff to self-isolate at home, as a precaution, after one of its employees tested positive for Covid-19.
The individual concerned is self-isolating at home for a period of fourteen days, in line with covid-19 guidelines, a source said.
A number of other staff members, deemed to be potential close contacts of the individual concerned, have also been asked to work from home as a precautionary measure, the source added.
When asked for a response, a council spokeswoman replied: “We don’t comment on operational matters like this.”
In a follow-up query, when it was put to the Council that the matter was in the public interest, as a public health concern, and that it was understood members of the public have been attending the department linked to the employee, a follow up response read: “We never comment on internal operational matters”.
The statement added: “But as a general comment, the council at all times follows HSE advice and guidelines and operates in line with the National Return to Work protocol.”
“This sets out the arrangements for workplaces to adapt their procedures and practices to comply fully with COVID-19 related public health protection measures.”
