OVER the weekend, the quarter final pairings from the Limerick Senior and Intermediate Football Championship were confirmed with a full set of fixtures in round three.
Limerick Senior Football Championship
On Saturday evening, Newcastle ensured top spot in Group 1 as they beat Ballysteen 2-7 to 0-5 in the Bog Garden. A tense first half saw the score at 0-3 to 0-1 in favour of last years champions.
Quickfire second half goals from Brian Nix and Stephen Brosnan helped Newcastle into a healthy lead straight after the half which they maintained for the rest of the game. That margin of loss was good enough to see Ballysteen progress as second in the group. It also means Drom Broadford will play Na Piarsaigh in the relegation semi-final.
On Sunday Fr Caseys 0-17 to 0-12 win over Adare booked a date with Ballysteen in the quarter-finals. Adare were 0-6 to 0-5 ahead at the half and were 0-11 to 0-8 in front at the last water break. From here however, the Abbeyfeale side would dominate to run out comfortable winners in the end. Adare and Newcastle West will meet in the last eight in a rematch of the 2017 final.
On Saturday evening, the final standings in Group 3 & 4 were confirmed as Oola and Monaleen sealed top spots in the respective groups. Monaleen beat Galbally 0-12 to 0-6 in Bruff in Group 3 to cement their place at the top of the table. At the half there was nothing to separate the sides who were deadlocked at 0-4 apiece. Heading into the final ten minutes there was just one between the teams but the City side would get the final five scores to secure the win.
Monaleen will face Ballylanders in the quarters after they fell to Oola 2-8 to 0-8. Oola notched their goals in the first half through Josh Ryan and James Power as they held a six point cushion at the short whistle. They would maintain this advantage until the end. Last year’s finalists will now play Galbally in the knockout stages.
Galtee Gaels will contest the relegation final against Na Piarsaigh or Drom Broadford after they were beaten 0-15 to 0-12 by St Kierans in the relegation semi-final. Both sides had spells of dominance in the first half but it would be St Kierans who were 0-8 to 0-6 ahead at the break. Galtee were level within ten of the restart.
Three on the bounce from St Kierans helped them back into the lead as they were two to the good approaching the final water break. The margin was one shortly after but St Kierans’ experience was to the fore as they dictated the final minutes to ensure safety. St Kierans are the first team in the SFC to be finished for the year.

Intermediate Football Championship
In the intermediate championship, the quarter final match ups are confirmed after a full round of fixtures.
Claughaun’s 1-12 to 0-11 win over Rathkeale on Sunday evening means they will play St Patricks in the last eight after they beat Pallasgreen 2-13 to 0-11 in their final group game to seal second spot in Group 2.
Rathkeale will meet Group 2 winners Gerald Griffins in a repeat of last year’s quarter-final.
2017 champions St Senans booked top spot in the group after a 4-11 to 1-9 win over Bruff on Friday evening. They will meet Kildimo Pallaskenry after they were comprehensively beaten 4-14 to 1-5 by Mungret St Pauls.
Mungret will play Glin in the quarter-finals.
The relegation semi-finals will see Mountcollins clash with Pallasgreen while Monaleen play Bruff.

Junior A Football Championship
In the Junior A championship, six teams have booked their place in the quarter finals with the four relegated teams confirmed.
South Liberties, Cappagh, Ahane and Bruree will play their football in the Junior B grade for 2021 after they finished bottom of their respective groups.
Croom will advance to the quarter finals from Group 1 and will be joined by either Fr Caseys or Castlemahon who are yet to meet.
Monagea will advance as Group 2 winners as they beat second placed Ballybrown 5-17 to 1-8.
Monagea will play the runners up in Group 1 while Ballybrown play the group winners.
Kilteely are guaranteed to finish top of group 3 ahead of the final round of fixtures and will play Newcastle West in the last 8.
NCW are runners up in Group 4 with Athea topping the table comfortably with a +75 points difference from three games.
Athea will play either Drom Broadford or Crecora Manister who meet at a later date.
