LIMERICK Fine Gael TD, Kieran O’Donnell has welcomed confirmation he has received directly from the IDA that they have initiated a search to identify further substantial strategic greenfield sites in the Mid-West region for economic and jobs development.
Deputy O’Donnell told the Limerick Post this week that the IDA is engaging engineers to carry out this search for sites suitable for large scale development including bio-pharmaceutical and life sciences projects.
It is understood that the IDA are looking at identifying sites in the range of 50 to100 hectares.
“I welcome this formal search by IDA Ireland to identify suitable substantial strategic greenfield sites in the Mid-West region around Limerick. IDA has confirmed to me that they are engaging engineers to carry out this sites search,” he explained.
“The IDA have been involved in bringing many industries and jobs to Limerick and the Mid-West area over many years. These FDIs have made a major contribution to the creation of much-needed jobs and economic development here.
“Therefore, I commend this forward planning by the IDA to ensure we have the suitable sites and infrastructure on stream to accommodate new FDI’s as well as the expansion of existing ones here.”
