LIDL has announced a planning application has been submitted for a site on Limerick’s Dock Road. If approved, the new store will expand the retailer’s Limerick City portfolio to four stores

In a media release, a spokesperson for the chain said, “Lidl is working with architects and planners to ensure that the new development and addition of a Lidl store will contribute positively and add a vibrancy to the Limerick Docklands area.”

They noted the new store would create 30 new local jobs.

The planned store will incorporate a range of sustainability features including an ISO 50001 certified Energy Management System, electric vehicle charger spaces and a solar panel system.

The spokesperson said, “It will also offer the retailer’s growing customer base a superior shopping experience with a spacious interior layout, high ceilings and wide aisles creating a comfortable shopping experience for customers.”

The group hopes to open the Dock Road store in 2022, but is “currently assessing all new sites to see how construction timelines are affected as a result of the global pandemic”.
