YESTERDAY it was confirmed mass gatherings of over 5,000 people would be banned in Ireland until the end of August at the earliest.
This announcement means that there will be no major sporting events held in the country this summer.
If the inter-county championships were to be played during this period, they would be behind closed doors as a result of yesterday’s announcement.
However, this announcement is unlikely to have any effect on any plans for the club championships.
County finals aside, it is hard to imagine a club game, especially in the early rounds having an attendance north of 5,000.
There is hope as a result that the club championships could resume once social restrictions are eased.
Of course, nothing is assured in the current climate, but it hasn’t been ruled out either.
