WORD from John Daly about Limerick Jazz Society hosting Steely Dan’s Jim Beard and Jon Herington tonight for the major gig of their new album in Dolan’s Warehouse is cancelled for Thursday March 12. Such a pity, a serious following in Limerick and the hinterland were primed to travel in for what would have been an outstanding night of original composition and supreme musicianship.
Dominic Taylor of Limerick Writers’ Centre felt compelled to pull today’s launch at Merchant’s Quay of ‘April is Poetry Month’ and the roll out of next mont’s programme of festivity:
“The Limerick Writers’ Centre announced today that their annual celebration of poetry ‘April is Poetry Month in Limerick’ has been cancelled due to concerns surrounding the Corona virus outbreak.
“We are very disappointed to have to cancel all events planned for April but in the interest of everyone’s safety and well being we reluctantly decided to cancel the festival for this year,” director of the festival Dominic stated today.
“The festival had been scheduled to take place from the 1st to the 30th April in various venues around the city but in recent days an number of venues have had to cancel participation, and a number of international guests have had to cancel travel arrangements.
“The organisers extended their thanks to all those who supported their efforts and look forward to getting everything back on track after the crisis is over.”
