EMMA Langford’s new single, featuring the words and voice of Vanessa Ifediora, is out now. The song ‘Sowing Acorns’ is also the title track of Emma’s second album due for release in September.
Emma worked with Grammy-nominated The Production Suite (Chris O’Brien and Graham Murphy) on her debut album ‘Quiet Giant’ and returned to their studios for the new LP.
The Limerick singer-songwriter credits O’Brien and Murphy for transforming a simple lullaby into an epic “hands-in-the-air style anthem” that builds to a powerful chorus, supported by layered vocals and drums.
“The track started out small – I wrote it to try and calm myself, I was feeling trapped and exhausted and like I was mentally spiralling because I couldn’t sleep, and when I did it was restless and disturbed by fever dreams,” she says of the song’s origins.
“But when I brought it to studio, I knew I wanted it to be less understated, and to have a sense of drama.”
‘Sowing Acorns’ features the speaking voice of Vanessa Ifediora reading her poem ‘Off-White Sheets’ over Emma’s gentle finger-picking before building to a powerful chorus.
Vanessa’s poem, sampled in the track, draws on her experiences of a condition called ‘Maladaptive Daydreaming’ and was published in March 2019 in her first book ‘Off-White Sheets.’
This was a collection of images and poems detailing her anxieties surrounding recovery from depression.
Expect an official music video, and a remix by Belfast-based electronic/ ambient artist Arvo Party soon. The track is also available on all streaming platforms.
