EMMA Langfordโs new single, featuring the words and voice of Vanessa Ifediora, is out now. The song โSowing Acornsโ is also the title track of Emmaโs second album due for release in September.
Emma worked with Grammy-nominated The Production Suite (Chris OโBrien and Graham Murphy) on her debut album โQuiet Giantโ and returned to their studios for the new LP.
The Limerick singer-songwriter credits OโBrien and Murphy for transforming a simple lullaby into an epic โhands-in-the-air style anthemโ that builds to a powerful chorus, supported by layered vocals and drums.
โThe track started out small – I wrote it to try and calm myself, I was feeling trapped and exhausted and like I was mentally spiralling because I couldnโt sleep, and when I did it was restless and disturbed by fever dreams,โ she says of the songโs origins.
โBut when I brought it to studio, I knew I wanted it to be less understated, and to have a sense of drama.โ
โSowing Acornsโ features the speaking voice of Vanessa Ifediora reading her poem โOff-White Sheetsโ over Emmaโs gentle finger-picking before building to a powerful chorus.
Vanessaโs poem, sampled in the track, draws on her experiences of a condition called โMaladaptive Daydreamingโ and was published in March 2019 in her first book โOff-White Sheets.โ
This was a collection of images and poems detailing her anxieties surrounding recovery from depression.
Expect an official music video, and a remix by Belfast-based electronic/ ambient artist Arvo Party soon. The track is also available on all streaming platforms.
