An unusual gig for Limerick Jazz Society opens the 2020 season this Friday February 28. John Donegan on piano plays a collection of his original works, recorded on the album ‘Siamsa’. Donegan is playing in quartet with guest Michael Buckley, legendary saxophone player that he is, then Dan Bodwell on bass and our own John Daly of Limerick Jazz on drums.
Of ‘A collection of contemporary compositions’, the pianist and writer of music tells us that “the inspiration for this project is derived from my Irish roots, from places and people that are dear to me and, from my involvement in jazz as a means of expression.”
“I spent four months writing a suite of 21 new pieces and in October 2018 we travelled to France to record the project at Bernard O’Neill’s studio. The suite is divided into two volumes and I hope you will enjoy the results of this musical journey!”
Doors 8.30pm and band on just after 9pm.
