IT WILL be red carpets all the way when Askeaton goes to a ‘Night at The Oscars,’ in the Charleville Park Hotel on Saturday, March 7.
And local celebrities will be up for awards after seven groups produced their very own feature films as part of a fundraising effort for the local soccer club.
The club has 150 families involved from U6s up to Juniors and is growing steadily. However, this means that its facilities need to be developed to meet this level of growth.
A fundraising plan was developed, the films chosen and casting calls were held. All the actors are local volunteers with each film group fundraising around the area.
Already the groups have been packing bags, raffling a hamper and organising a curry night.
The sporty types among them have taken part in the five-a-side soccer blitz and a bootcamp.
Coming up is a make-up tutorial on Friday, February 21 and that’s all in the run-up to the main event.
Last weekend saw the beginning of filming and locals may have noticed a commotion in Curraghchase, the tapping of feet in Casey’s Bar, some interesting physiques going for a dip in the Deel or a chicken on the loose in Creeves.
But to see what it’s really all about and to see the people of Askeaton as never before, you’ll have to put on the glad rags and take a trip to the aforementioned “A night at the Oscars”.
Information on all events including ticket sales can be found on the club’s Facebook or Instagram pages, Askeaton AFC ‘A night at the Oscars’.
