Final preparations are underway for next week’s school musical, Revolutions. Students attending Catherine McAuley School are busy putting the finishing touches to this year’s musical offering.
Catherine McAuley school boasts a long tradition in presenting musicals stretching all the way back to the early 1990’s when the school performed such favourites as HMS Pinafore, The Pirates of Penzance, Joseph, Oliver and The Wizard of Oz. In recent years the school has seen one of its talented teachers, Mr. Declan Bromell write a number of full musicals specifically for the students in the school. Revolutions is this year’s offering.
Revolutions follows the lives of four young children from rural Ireland during the political and cultural revolution of the early 1900’s. Follow them as they grow up during this life-changing period of Irish history. A cast of almost 60 students ranging in age from 11 to 18 years will perform the musical to a live audience of almost 500 people at Lime Tree Theatre.
Students and staff have been busy learning lines, practicing dance moves, designing posters, building sets and selecting costumes in recent weeks. Rehearsals have been taking place in the school hall and this weekend sees the mammoth task of moving the sets, costumes and props to the theatre for next week’s performances.
“For our students to take to the stage will be a massive achievement,” reported Deputy Principal, Joe McCarthy to Limerick Post.
“A special word of thanks to the Parent’s Association who will be assisting at the night shows.”
“An undertaking such as this could not be done without a hugely committed staff many of whom have worked with the pupils over the past few months assisting and guiding them towards the ultimate goal of threading the boards in the wonderful surrounds of the Lime Tree Theatre.”
Revolutions plays at Lime Tree Theatre on Wednesday February 5 and Thursday February 6 from 7.30pm.
Matinee Performances happen on February 5 – 7 from11.30am.
