€5 million a year to fund Mayoral role

-

A FINE Gael General Election candidate has this week committed to passing legislation for Limerick’s firstly directly elected mayor if her party is returned to government.

Senator Maria Byrne said her party is committed to holding a vote no later than May 2021 if re-elected to Government and they will provide €5million a year from 2022 to Limerick City and County Council to deliver on the mayor’s mandate.

“The people of Limerick decided they would be the only city in Ireland to have a directly elected mayor. Having had the pleasure of serving the people of Limerick as a councillor for 17 years and as mayor in 2010, I can see the huge benefits this position will bring to our county,” Senator Byrne commented.
