Tipperary manager Liam Sheedy is hoping that all the celebrating from last year’s All-Ireland win is out of the system as they welcome Limerick to Semple Stadium for the opening fixture of the 2020 Allianz Hurling League.
The sides met twice in the Munster Championship last year with Tipperary winning the group fixture, but Limerick had a comfortable win over the Premier in the Munster Final.
Those games will have no bearing on Saturday’s game and Sheedy admits that his side are probably behind the curve in terms of preparation having only returned to training recently.
“If we want to get a benchmark of where we are in the middle of January, what better team to ask that question of you than Limerick?
“They are reigning Munster and National League champions and in a lot of peoples eyes, if you are listening to the talk after the All-Ireland, the best team in Ireland.
“To have them coming to town on Saturday is ideal for us. It will give us a real understanding of where our group are at.”
