Animal welfare group’s appeal to help scalded cats

-

A COUNTY Limerick animal welfare group has appealed for funds to cover the cost of treatment for three cats that were scalded with boiling water.

The Deel Animal Action Group in Newcastle West posted graphic pictures sent by a woman who found the injured cats in her yard.

“We were notified about three cats that have been coming into someone’s yard and eating their family cat’s food. The finder was concerned about them as they had what appeared to be burn marks on them,” the animal welfare group stated on its Facebook page.

“She took photos and sent them to us. One of our volunteers went out and managed to trap one of them .”

Posting a photo of one of the injured cats, the group added that they took her to the vets where the extent of the injuries was confirmed.

Adding that they had more photographs that were too graphic to post, the group said that all three cats were in a similar state.

“The vet has advised us that the treatment will consist of a minimum four days in the vets having dressings changed daily under sedation. Then into a foster home until they are pain free and back to reasonable health.”

The Facebook post said the cat they managed to capture was in tremendous pain but the vet was of the opinion that with the right care, she will make a good recovery”.

The group asked for donations to help with the veterinary bills.

The group currently has over 30 cats and kittens in its care as well as a number of dogs.

“This means we have significantly high vet bills, to the tune of around €8,000. So taking on these babies as well will only add to the pressure we are under,” the group said.
