Showstopping arias and stars for Griselda

This is the fourth and final instalment of this week’s suite of season picks staging at Lime Tree Theatre for the Autumn.

IRISH National Opera is working with the Irish Baroque Orchestra, who were central to Killaloe Chamber Music Festival in June. ‘Griselda’ is a Vivaldi opera and a first staging of this composer by INO.

Mezzo soprano Katie Bray is cast in the title role, October 24 here, one night only for this upbeat work.

Conductor Peter Whelan tells us that ‘Griselda’ is “feel good music that bursts with Italianate primary colours. In showstopper arias such as Agitata da due venti and Dopo un’orrida procella, Vivaldi demands that the voice be every bit as agile and virtuosic as the solo violin in his Four Seasons.”

“We have a cast of some of the most exciting up-and-coming singers of the new generation. Earlier this Summer, Katie Bray won the Audience Prize in the Cardiff Singer of the World competition and Sinead O’Kelly, who sings the role of Ottone, is a rising star at Zurich Opera’s academy.”
